The building

A house at the centre

The new building wraps around the restored courtyard house where Chen Ding-Nan was born. Its square outer form and curved inner elements are meant to reflect a man who was firm in public and gentle in private.

The grounds

Water and a view

Water links the courtyards and garden, and three cone-shaped stone mounds form an axis pointing towards Guishan Island. The Annong River, whose restoration he won funding for as magistrate, is nearby.
